BSP chief’s statue vandalised in Lucknow

The statue of former UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati was vandalised by some unidentified persons in Gomti Nagar area. The white marble statue installed in the Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal was damaged by some unidentified persons.
A big hammer was apparently used to vandalise the face and head of the statue, they said. Sensing tense situation and fearing outrage by Mayawati supporters, the administration has deployed heavy police forces on the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
This statue was installed at the site when Mayawati was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Most of the statues installed during her regime are with a purse which she carries in her real life. This statue too was built with a purse in its hand which has also been removed along with the face and head.
It has also been reported that some pamphlets were found scattered at the site of the damaged statue which refers to a group named Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena. This is believed to be the first incident of its kind when a statue of Mayawati, who is known for her penchant for statues, has been vandalized.
