UPA coalition deteriorating, says Jaitley

Commenting on the prospects of mid-term polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley has said the Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition was deteriorating and could lose their majority if the BJP were to push for the polls.

"One thing is certain, the ruling government is very weak. Its leadership is also weak, they are facing a policy paralysis, no policies are being formulated and the popularity of the ruling party and government has fallen," Jaitley told.

The mid-term polls issue gathered storm after Union Minister of Railways and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dinesh Trivedi said that if there was an anti-Congress wave in the country and the Samajwadi Party and the BJP wanted an early poll then Congress would have to respond. His statement has caused concern in the Congress party. The Congress fared badly in three of the five states where elections were held , namely Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa.
